Nicole Schofield

3D Environment & Level Artist

Nicole Schofield is a 3D Environment and Level Artist who specializes in crafting atmospheric game spaces through thoughtful world building, prop creation, and set dressing. She is passionate about building environments that feel intentional and lived-in; spaces where every asset, material, and lighting choice supports mood, gameplay, and story.

With over seven years of AAA experience, Nicole has developed a strong foundation in modular kit design, hard-surface prop creation, PBR texturing pipeline, and environment level construction. She enjoys shaping the visual language of a space; from early blockout through final polish, using composition, material definition, and environmental storytelling to guide the player’s eye and reinforce narrative tone.

At Striking Distance Studios, she contributed to the haunting sci-fi world of The Callisto Protocol and later helped build out over 1/3rd of the levels for Redacted. Her work included designing modular structural kits, creating optimized game-ready props, and set dressing critical path spaces. She thrives in the balance between artistic detail, engine performance and engaging gameplay areas; ensuring the areas are interesting and fun to play in.

Nicole’s early experience in QA at Sledgehammer Games during the development of Call of Duty: WWII gave her a deep appreciation for gameplay readability, player flow, and the polish required to ship high-quality titles; insight that continues to inform how she approaches spatial design and environmental storytelling today. This perspective allows her to understand the gameplay from a player’s point of view to create something entertaining within the playspace.

She is driven by the challenge of telling stories through the world; creating memorable, engaging environments that players enjoy exploring and that stay with them long after they put the controller down.
